Privacy Policy — Alps Summits

Last updated: 19 July 2026

Alps Summits (“the app”) is designed to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the app does — and does not — do with information.

Summary

Alps Summits does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking.

Information stored on your device

Everything you create in the app — the summits you mark as climbed, dates, ratings and notes — is stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device database (SwiftData). This information never leaves your device and is never sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app removes this data.

Pro features — including “Summits in view” (which 4000ers are visible from a peak) and “Routes by difficulty” — are computed entirely on your device from this bundled reference data and your own records. They send nothing anywhere and require no account or connection.

Health & workouts

If you have Alps Summits Pro, you can link a hiking workout to an ascent. With your permission, the app reads workouts from Apple Health — read-only — to show that climb’s distance, elevation gain, moving time and calories. This includes activities that reach Apple Health from other devices, such as an Apple Watch or a Garmin watch synced through Garmin Connect.

The app never writes anything to Apple Health. Workout data is read only when you open the linking screen, is used solely to fill in the ascent you’re viewing, and the stats you choose to keep are stored locally on your device alongside the rest of your logbook. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else. You can review or revoke Alps Summits’ access at any time in the Health app under Sharing.

Sharing & photos

When you create a share card, the image is generated on your device. If you tap Save, the app adds that image to your photo library — it asks for add-only photo access the first time and can’t read your existing photos. If you tap Instagram Story, the image is handed to the Instagram app (via the system pasteboard) to post; Alps Summits doesn’t post anything on your behalf and has no access to your Instagram account. Using the standard share sheet hands the image to whichever app you choose. In every case the image is created only when you ask for it and is never sent to us.

Purchases

Alps Summits offers an optional one-time “Pro” purchase and an optional tip. These are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment details. Your purchase entitlement is verified on your device by Apple’s StoreKit; we operate no servers.

The app also accepts free redeem codes that can unlock Pro or a collectible ambassador badge. Codes are validated entirely on your device and stored locally; redeeming one involves no account, no servers, and no personal data.

Maps

The map is provided by Apple Maps (MapKit). When you use the map, Apple may process map requests in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy. Alps Summits does not request your location and does not track where you are.

Summit data

Summit names, elevations and coordinates are adapted from Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap, available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike and Open Database licenses respectively. This is public reference data and contains no information about you.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Your control

Because all your data stays on your device, you are always in control. To erase everything, delete the app from your device.
